Project aims to bridge the generation gap

07.06.2010

Students in Stourbridge are befriending the elderly to trial an intergenerational project launched by Age UK.

The sixth form intitiative, as part of the Good Neighbour Scheme run by Age UK Dudley, was officially launched on Friday 21st May at The Cedars Residential Home, Pedmore.

More than 100 elderly people are already benefitting from the scheme, which is continuing to recruit and train volunteers to visit those who have less than three unpaid visitors each week.

Formerly known as Age Concern, Age UK Dudley is keen to get younger generations involved in the initiative, testing the idea with two students from Old Swinford Hospital School, Stourbridge.

If the trial is a success - the scheme will be extended to other areas of the Dudley borough.
